Make Your Calling Your Career

by Gopal Ramasammy-Cook (Career-Creative Coach, ZestWare)

For most of us there is work we would gladly do even if we were not paid for it. Such work fills us with energy and inspiration and before we know it, hours have passed without us noticing. This is the work that nourishes you so much that you might not even think of it as work. You probably call it your passion and think of it as leisure or even play. This could be your CALLING.

Then there is the other kind of work - the kind we do for money, security, recognition, prestige, status, and other such objectives. Most of us would call this work our CAREER.

To give you some pointers to the nature of your calling, watch the following short video clip in which Nick Williams, Director of The Inspirational Learning Company, and author of The Work We Were Born to Do: Find the Work You Love, Love the Work You Do considers the big question: "What is The Work You Were Born to Do?"

So wouldn't it be great if your calling could also be your career? It makes sense doesn't it? This requires that you:

  • know yourself well

  • identify your calling (Hint: It's what inspires you)

  • discover who else can benefit from your calling

  • use your CALLING to serve these people

  • get paid for this service

Please post a comment and let me know about your career and calling, whether you have been able to make your calling your career, and how you have achieved this.
